Mistley Colonel to take charge

Mistley Colonel impressively won the first Blue Square Arc semi-final on Saturday 14th February at Swindon. The Kelly Mullins- trained dog is priced at odds of 7/2 for another victory over 480m.

In the semi he got the better of the favourite Shaneboy Luke (7/4) and Lenson Express (6/1) with Droopys Carvalho narrowly missing out on a place in the £10,000 final.

Mistley Colonel was not expected to qualify for the final from his semi let alone win the race as he was up against three of the front four ante-post market leaders.

Nevertheless it is the semi-final losing Liz McNair-trained Shaneboy Luke that leads the betting for the final at 7/4. Shaneboy Luke bolted up over course and distance last month and reproduction of that kind of form will make him very hard to beat.

In the second semi-final Driving Up Pal (5/1) was victorious in a somewhat easier affair. Corrig Vieri (3/1) followed him home with Grillagh Guru (20/1) completing the qualifiers for the lucrative final in third.

Driving Up Pal sometimes has trouble getting out of the traps as quick as some of his rivals but has continued to improve with every run and it would be no surprise to see him run a big race.

Lenson Express who finished behind Shaneboy Luke in the semi-finals would be better off if drawn nearer the rails. Trap 3 is not ideal and he will have to put in a life time best display to take the honours here.

Corrig Vieri has a cracking chance if he can avoid trouble at the start. He is blessed with tremendous pace coming off the second bend and could quite easily pick off a few rivals in the closing stages.

Jim Little's Grillagh Guru is the outsider of the race and he would appear to have little chance in what is a very good race indeed. He is here on merit however and deserves to take his chance. If he can ping the traps and really fly out then anything is possible

This should be a fascinating race, open race that you can see live on Sky Sports Xtra at 21:45.
