The smart money's for Wise Thought in the greyhound Derby
The final of the Blue Square Greyhound Derby takes place at Wimbledon tonight and it couldn't be tighter with the joint 5/2 favourites in the betting.
Wise Thought and Ballymac Ruso cannot be split in William Hill's outright market and out of the two it could be the Martin White trained Wise Thought that has punters forming a disorderly queue in the payout line.
He won on this card last year so will not be fazed by the big noise and bright lights of Wimbledon on Derby day and he has the fortune of being in his favoured Trap 6.
His fastest break in the competition came the only time that he donned the stripes and if he pings the traps and leads round the first two Wise Thought will be extremely difficult to catch.
His main market rival who is also 5/2 in the betting is Ballymac Ruso who beat Wise Thought fair and square in the semi finals and on form should have the race won.
Ballymac Ruso's whole race though could depend on if Fear Zafonic coming out of Trap 1 gets a better start as with the joint favourite coming out of Trap 2, it will be crucial whoever leads at the first corner.
The thinking is that as Wise Thought will be largely uncontested when leaving the traps, he may have the best of it in the quest for the lead.
Charlie Lister who trains Fear Zafonic knows exactly what it takes to win a Blue Square Derby and could tee things up perfectly for his 3/1 chance.
Lister's other chance Farloe Reason will also be flying out of Trap 3 and while it would be a huge shock if this 5/1 chance managed to get the better of his two inside traps, he is lightening fast once out and looks the most likely to upset the odds.
Matt Dartnall's dog Glenard Sunrise has come on leaps and bounds as the competition has gone on and he more than merits his place in the final.
Although he has vastly improved, he faces a tall order to overturn the market leaders and a place may be his best hope and he can be backed at 10/1 in the betting coming out of Trap 4.
Completing the line up is Mark Wallis' Kinda Ready who will run his race at huge odds of 25/1, but he will need a lifetime best performance here to stun the field and the whole of Wimbledon.
This should be an enthralling tussle between the market leaders but preference is for Wise Thought who can lead uncontested from his favourite Trap 6, and reward punters at odds of 5/2.
