AP McCoy On Retirement: “I’ll Be The One At Home Packing The Lunches For The Kids”

Some jockeys put on the pounds after retiring, but I like being fit and healthy and I have no desire to put on too much weight. I'm going to be keeping an eye on my physique if you like, but I'm looking forward to having breakfast in the mornings and basically eating what I can without worrying about whether I'm going to be heavy the next day or whether I'm going to be able to do the weight. I'm just looking forward to leading a normal life in terms of what I eat and not worrying about it.

I think the children are looking forward to me being at home and luckily my wife Chanelle still works, so I'll be the one at home packing the lunches for the kids and she'll be the one out working.

Chanelle thinks I'm the worst tipster in the world. If you gave Chanelle a free bet on the Grand National, she'd bet on me as long as I didn't tell her to bet on me. If I told her to bet on me, she'd probably back something else!

It's the most famous horse race in the world, but if I was lucky enough to win it this year, it would be my last ever ride and my last ever winner. That would be a bit of a fairy-tale and I'm not even sure I'm silly enough to dream that could happen. There would be a bit of sadness too, knowing that it would be the last time I'd ever be on a horse.

When the 2016 Grand National comes round, I have no idea what I'll be doing. That is the million dollar question. I'll be watching it, I'm sure I'll find it a little bit difficult but I love horse racing and I love watching it so I'm going to look forward to it in that sense but it will be a strange feeling not taking part for the first time in 20 odd years.

In the future, I don't think there's much chance of me training a Grand National runner. I'm not sure the training side of things is for me to be honest, I think I'm better leaving it as a jockey. There's definitely a better chance of me owning a Grand National horse.

Odds For McCoy Owning, Training Or Breeding A Grand National Winner: 16/1
