Bookies brace for biggest Derby in over 230 years?
William Hill have slashed the price of the Duchess of Cambridge wearing a blue hat at Epsom from 6/1 to 4/1 following a flurry of activity in the market today.
White is the 3/1 favourite with Black & Blue joint second favourites at 4/1.
"It looks like Blue is on the shortlist but we think Kate will probably wait to see what the weather is like on the day before making the decision," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
The Investec Derby is the official start of the Jubilee weekend and William Hill are predicting that all the added interest in the race could result in record breaking turnover. Hills are particularly wary of a potential £3-4 million payout should the UK's most successful female jockey, Hayley Turner, ride to victory. Hayley will be wearing ‘Union Jack' breeches in the big race and has be backed down from 100/1 to 40/1 to win on Cavaleiro.
The 2012 Derby will be the last that the BBC will be covering and Hills offer 5/4 that BBC presenter Claire Balding sheds a tear as she signs off.
"We fully expect record viewing figures for this year's Derby as it is both the start of the Jubilee weekend and the final time the BBC will be showing the historic race," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
