Edie is top filly at Goodwood
Supermodel Edie Campbell went from catwalk to cake-walk today as she strutted her way to an impressive victory in today's charity Ladies race at Goodwood.
In a competitive field of celebrities and professional equestrians, it was model Edie - best known for the Burberry campaigns - who scored a clear victory ahead of Ch4 Racing presenter Emma Spencer and top dressage rider Laura Bechtolscheimer in a close finish for second and third.
The bookies were also cheering Edie home as her win foiled a big gamble on Emma Spencer, with William Hill inundated with bets for the racing presenter and forced to cut her from 7-2 to 5-4 favourite in the betting.
William Hill spokeswoman Jennie Prest said, "Edie gave her horse a very chic ride and landed a stylish victory. In fact she looked so accomplished that we are quoting 8-1 that she goes on to win a proper horserace, under rules, by the end of 2011."
The celebrities, including Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox and Tatler magazine editor Kate Reardon amongst others, have raised over £300,000 in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital by taking part in the race.
