Eton Forever has been backed into 8-1 favouritism (from 10-1) this morning with the big-race sponsors for the traditional Flat season curtain-raiser, the William Hill Lincoln Handicap.
The five-year-old provided trainer Roger Varian with his first winner since taking over from the late Michael Jarvis when successful in the Lincoln consolation race - the William Hill Spring Mile - last year, and has been consistently prominent in the betting for the main event this time around.
Others for notable support in recent weeks include Cheveley Park contender Fury (9-1 from 11-1) and Edinburgh Knight (12-1 from 14-1), the confirmed mount of leading Irish jockey Pat Smullen.
The ex-John Oxx inmate Cocozza, who will be having his first start for Marco Botti over the Town Moor mile next week, has seen support at bigger prices and is now available at 12-1.
William Hill spokeswoman Lucy Rhodes said "It's clearly been a long old winter for the Flat fanatics and we've got the sand bags at the ready ahead of the all-too-familiar William Hill Lincoln gamble as the season's traditional curtain-raiser draws near"
• The next declaration stage for the William Hill Lincoln is on Monday 26th March, where the William Hill Spring Mile field will also take shape.
• The draw for the famous handicap will take place on Thursday 29th March - live on At The Races.
