Friday's Musselburgh Racing Preview
BIG RACE HOPES FOR BASTIMAN
Robin Bastiman is hoping his two Yorkshire raiders at Musselburgh today can run big races despite both being drawn towards the wide outside of the East Lothian track.
First up for the Wetherby trainer is super-consistent three-time winner Green Howard in the £12,000 Egden Murray Europe Ltd Handicap.
Bastiman said: "He's only been out of the first three once in nine starts but being drawn ten of ten is a little concern. It helps that he comes from off the pace and at least the ground is in his favour.
"It was too heavy when he was second at Doncaster last time and he is a nice little horse so we have good hopes for him for the future. He's also been third at York this year despite not liking the wide-open spaces and I think he will run okay."
Bottom-weight Copperwood represents bang-in-form Mark Johnston who has sent out an incredible 26 winners in the past fortnight, a figure that includes seven at Glorious Goodwood.
Julie Burke gets the leg up on Cannon Bolt for Bastiman in the Scottish Racing Apprentice Handicap and he added: "He's also drawn wide in eight and his style of running suits Musselburgh - he's won there already this season and nearly half of his races have been at the track. He loves to bowl along in front and then kick off that home bend. It will be the first time Julie has ridden him but she is a good little pilot and we're pleased to have booked her."
