Koukashing-in on Gold Cup Hat-trick

The final declarations for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup were revealed on Thursday morning when the draw for the prestigious sprint handicap took place.

The new favourite is now reigning champion Our Jonathan 10-1 (from 11-1), who has just usurped Haweyethenoo at the head of the betting.

Kevin Ryan's charge has been subject to a gamble over the last few days, and will jump from stall 12 in his bid to secure a Gold Cup hat-trick for owner Dr Marwan Koukash.

Connections and onlookers were forced to a dramatic wait until the very end of the process when Hawkeyethenoo - who has drifted to 12-1 from 10-1 - was the last contender to be drawn, with only stall 3 the remaining place.

With the original favourite eased, the lightly-raced Haggas-trained three-year-old Sholaan now shares second-favouritism with the sponsors and will neighbour Hawkeyethenoo in stall 2.

William Hill spokeswoman Lucy Rhodes said "Over the years the draw doesn't appear to have had a notable bias but it will be interesting to see how the market pans out as a result of the supporting races. The pace looks to feature around the middle to low numbers and with ground conditions at present favouring Our Jonathan, the gamble around the defending champion continues"

The William Hill Ayr Gold Cup draw was carried out by former Scotland, Rangers and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish.

On show along with the William Hill Gold, Silver and Bronze Cups was the William Hill Scottish Cup, currently held by Hearts.
