Following the five day declarations for the Ebor at York on Saturday, the likely shape and make-up of the final field is clearer now.
The market interest has taken a step forward today with significant support for John Hammond's French raider, Hammerfest (8/1 from 10/1) and Luca Cumani's Qahirman (8/1 from 10/1).
In addition, there has been interest in Godolphin's Willing Foe (14/1 from 16/1) and Mark Johnston's recent Goodwood winner, Hurricane Higgins (20/1 from 25/1).
Motivado looks almost certain to get in the final field now, needing only three runners higher than him in the handicap to defect before Thursday's final declaration stage and Sir Mark Prescott's Motivator gelding is a solid 9/2 favourite.
Frankel will rightly take all the attention on Wednesday, when he steps up to 10½ furlongs for the first time in the Juddmonte International, but this is not a one horse race.
There are three pacemakers in the field, and in St Nicholas Abbey, Frankel has a rival for who the trip is not a problem.
The race promises to be a fascinating tactical affair with every chance that the race will be run at a searching gallop with St Nicholas Abbey likely to force the issue from early in the straight.
Punters today have been taking advantage of the each-way angle offered by the race shape, and St Nicholas Abbey has been backed into 5/1 (from 11/2) - he was 7/1 over the weekend.
Looking further ahead, interest in Mount Athos for the Melbourne Cup has been sustained today. Luca Cumani's progressive Montjeu gelding traded at 16/1 for the Cup on Saturday morning, was then cut to 14/1 after his success in the Geoffrey Freer at Newbury and today has been trimmed to 12/1 in early Monday morning trading and now stands as the 10/1 favourite.
