Overturn fancied for McCain flat tilt

Overturn heads a maximum field of 17 declared for Wednesday's Chester Cup, with William Hill installing Donald McCain's dual-purpose performer as 11-2 favourite.

The Northumberland Plate hero is bidding to give the local trainer a first victory in the long-distance Heritage Handicap, whilst fellow Grand National-winning handler Gordon Elliott sends out last season's Ebor victor Dirar (8-1).

Last year's winner Mamlook and runner-up Tastahil are quoted at 12-1 and 9-1 respectively.

Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said ‘As usual the Chester Cup is set to be a hugely competitive event, featuring leading National Hunt trainers attempting to lift one of Flat racing's top handicaps. Overturn is a worthy favourite, and is sure to be hugely popular with the punters for the Cheshire-based McCain stable'
