Punters in clover should Goldikova do honours
Royal Ascot 2011 will shortly be in full swing, and punters are wasting no time in getting involved in UK Flat racing’s biggest and most famous meeting, with William Hill having fielded various chunky bets throughout the morning.
The Queen Anne clash kicks things off in explosive style and Goldikova has proved most popular, with one West London shop client placing a total of £25,000 at 7-4 on the supermare, with the firm reporting a separate bet of £16,000 from an Online punter.
However, younger male rival Canford Cliffs hasn’t gone unfancied, with the bookmakers having seen £7,000 Internet and £8,000 Retail bets amongst numerous four-figure wagers.
Frederick Engels, runner-up to exciting Queen Mary favourite Shumoos at Haydock, has also been a popular selection, now 10-3 from 4-1 for the Windsor Castle after bets of £10,000 were placed in Shops and Online.
Amongst the bigger prices the firm have cut Mitchum to 33-1 from 66-1 after fielding £1000 each-way on David Barron’s charge for the Coventry Stakes.
Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said, "Punters are wasting no time in getting involved in Royal Ascot, and there’s been notable support for racing’s Queen Goldikova to retain her throne at the Royal Meeting."
