Sheffield man wins £122,500 from £20
One lucky punter in Sheffield landed the bet of a lifetime when he turned £20 into £122,550.00 on Thursday.
The man correctly predicted the winners of four races from Southwell, Taunton and Kempton.
The first winner, Dormouse romped home at 4/1 at the 3:10 at Taunton before two 20/1 winners in Flying Pickets and Ace of Spies grabbed wins in Southwell at 3:20 and 3:50 respectively.
The punter, who wishes to remain anonymous, then had a nervous wait until the 7:55 at Kempton when Good Luck Charm won at 9/2 and what a good luck charm it proved to be.
The punter placed an each way fivefold with one non runner - Cadeaux Pearl at Southwell at 14/1.
Had Cadeaux Pearl run and won, the punter would have scooped William Hill's maximum horse payout of £1m, although had it not placed he would have walked away with nothing.
"Had our mystery punter had five runners he could have been a millionaire OR he could have won nothing," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. "As it stands, however, we are sure he will be happy with his day's investment."
