US superstar Julie 9/2 fav for legend's crown

Retired celebrities of the saddle will return to action on Wednesday when the Leger Legends charity race takes place at Doncaster Racecourse, and William Hill have priced up the opening day highlight, installing star USA former jockey Julie Krone as their 9-2 favourite.

Krone boasts nearly 4000 career wins to her name and is the most successful female jockey of all time, with victory in the Belmont Stakes in 1993 the undoubtable highlight, but will grace the Yorkshire turf this time when she partners Invincible Hero for trainer Declan Carroll.

Talent Scout, ridden by Racing Post Journalist and Racing UK presenter Tom O'Ryan, is 5-1 second-favourite with William Hill, whilst Whitechapel will join forces with former Champion Apprentice Ernie Johnson, and is next in Hills's betting at 7-1.

Classic-winning ex-jockey George Duffied sides with 8-1-chance Dialogue, whilst last year's winner Charlie Swann is set to be aboard Skyfire and is priced at 9-1 for a repeat bid.

Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said ‘The Leger Legends event is for a great cause and a fantastic opportunity to see some of the stars of yesteryear back in action. Julie Krone gets our vote for this year's trophy'

Following the great success of the inaugural Leger Legends running last year, bookmakers William Hill are delighted to be offering their support for a second time - pledging all profits raised as a donation.

The beneficiaries are two Yorkshire-based charities - the Injured Jockeys Fund rehabilitation centre in Malton and the Northern Racing College.
