Weatherbys Preview: Mares' Hurdle

Paul Jones of Weatherbys gives us his independent betting tips on all the races from this year's Cheltenham Festival.

Whiteoak’s defection to the Champion Hurdle has severely weakened this race and Quevega can take advantage.

Maybe too much is being read into her third in France in the summer just behind Hurricane Fly but she looked very good on her only start since at Punchestown where some of her hurdling was electrically fast and she demonstrated a nice turn of foot to settle the race easily.

Reportedly she is the most fancied of Willie Mullins’ very strong Festival squad and is likely to have the cut in the ground she needs so will take plenty of beating.

Oscar Rebel could make it a 1-2 for the Irish. A winner at last season’s Fairyhouse and Punchestown Festivals, she has the look of a spring mare and returned with an encouraging second to Catch Me in the Boyne Hurdle last month.

The winner is unbeaten in all four races this season so that was a good run and she makes plenty of each-way appeal at a double figure price is the odds on Quevega don’t excite you.
