Whillans after more winners

Fresh from the biggest win of his training career at Cartmel's jumps card on Saturday courtesy of What A Steel, Borders-based Alistair Whillans is focusing on some Flat success at Musselburgh this afternoon.
Whillans, who looks after a dual-purpose string at Esker House, near Hawick, is hoping for a big run from top-weight Vittachi in the 2m Racing UK The UK's Best Racecourses Live Handicap.

He said: "It was too soft last time when he disappointed over course and distance. He was never happy on the ground and I would blame the going for that poor effort as he was beaten a long way out.
If he was back on song - and he seems to be - he shouldn't be far away. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he was good enough to win as long as the rain stays away."

Whillans is looking for the handicapper to show some mercy to Ravi River, joint top-weight in the Brown Shipley Wealth Well Managed Handicap and he added: "I think he's still on too high a rating and he needs to be dropped a few pounds. We're back up to a mile and a half but he hasn't been sparkling yet, on the Flat or over jumps, so all you can do is hope for the best."
