Crunch time for Vettel in Turkish practice
Sebastian Vettel doesn't have much luck in Turkey.
After the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix where Vettel clipped his Red Bull teammate Mark Webber and ended up in the gravel, the young German once again fell afoul of the tricky Istanbul Park track on Friday practice.
The defending world champion missed the entire day of running after losing control on the rain-soaked track, smashing his RB7 at Istanbul's famous Turn 8 , nick-named ‘Diabolica' .
Vettel was forced to watch the session from the pits.
"The car is badly damaged and from a safety point of view we need to check everything," said team boss Christian Horner
"We would rather be on the safe side, checking everything three or four times," he added.
Vettel remains the 8/13 favourite to be the Fastest Qualifier on Saturday even though Jenson Button (11/1) headed the second session at Istanbul Park.
Jenson Button "We haven't put everything on the car that we wanted to this weekend, which is disappointing, but we still have some useful upgrades so it's nice to keep moving forwards." Jenson Button is priced at 7/1 for the Turkish win.
Lewis Hamilton "We're still in the fight: the most important factor this weekend is to continue with our consistency - getting on the podium is my target (8/15 to do so), and if we can win that'll be even better!"
