Formula 1 World Championship 2008

Formula One or F1 as it has come to be known is the premier championship in the motor sport calendar and since Giuseppe Farina won the first F1 championship in 1950 in his Alfa Romeo, Italy have been a dominant force in this, the richest and most glamorous of motor sport events.

And up to the last minute of the last race in the F1 2008 season; it looked like the Ferrari's again who would claim all the trophies at the closing party in Brazil.

The Ferrari team including Mr. Massa Senior watched Felipe cross the line in P1, which he was always going to do.

This was all the Brazilian could do, as the World Championship would then lay in the lap of the gods as to Lewis Hamilton's finishing position.

And as Massa crossed the line, Hamilton wasn't in the top five and the Drivers and Constructors Championships looked like Ferrari's for the taking, to the point where the Italians had began the celebrations.

Every jaw in F1 must have dropped as Timo Glock had car trouble seconds away from the chequered flag which allowed the youngest ever World Champion to realise that goal.

As they entered parc ferme, both Massa & Hamilton were in tears - Massa had to go up to the podium to claim his trophy for winning his home Grand Prix, but directly below, and draped in a Union flag - Lewis Hamilton flanked by family and team McLaren celebrated the Brit’s first Championship win.
