Sauber's Kobayashi & Perez disqualified from F1 Australia
The Sauber team have a huge headache this morning.
Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber have BOTH been disqualified from the Australian Grand Prix results following the revelation of a technical infringement.
Perez managed to steal the headlines with 6 championship points on his F1 debut with a P7 finish, while Kamui Kobayashi followed his team mate home in P8 - a seemingly unbelievable weekend for Sauber.
Too good to be true in fact, as the Sauber's upper rear wing element was found not to conform to regulations, though Sauber have announced they will appeal the decision.
"This is a very surprising and disappointing result."
"It appears that there is a question over the top surface of the uppermost rear wing element, this area is not the working surface of the component and therefore relatively unimportant to its function. Certainly this has not lead to any performance advantage. We are checking the design of the parts now to better understand the situation and we intend to appeal the decision made by the stewards." said James Key of Sauber.
The changes in the result promotes Ferrari's Felipe Massa to P7, while Sebastien Buemi now claims P8.
In addition to that, both Force India drivers have now moved up into the points, with Adrian Sutil taking P9 and Paul di Resta gaining his first F1 point on his debut!
An interesting opening weekend in Australia!
