Schumie return? Rumours are rife!
Rumors surrounding 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher's possible return to F1 were fueled as the deutsche driving supremo failed to attend Ferrari's Christmas party.
Schumacher, who almost returned to the asphalt last season when Ferrari's Felipe Massa suffered life threatening injuries, would have been expected to attend the Christmas function with his Ferrari team-mates.
However... the Mercedes team - headed by Nick Fry - are well on the way to tempting the retired driver back out on to the track and this is thought to be the reason behind the driver's 'no-show'.
German media have reported that a deal had been struck, although Fry would not elaborate,
"I can't tell you at this stage, unfortunately," said Fry when asked about Schumacher. "The view from inside Formula One, not just in my team, is that they all hope it will happen. On Saturday night in Germany, the news that Michael might return was the first thing on and the Copenhagen climate talks was second. Not sure if they have their priorities right, but it shows the impact."
However, the Mercedes boss also added; "A number of drivers are still available if Michael were to decide not to drive. Then there are alternatives that we would be happy to go with."
Although it is a huge talking point and is making F1 hit the headlines for all the right reasons, it is my opinion that perhaps Schumie should leave his helmet on the coat-peg.
He has already achieved everything possible in the sport and to come back now at the age of 40 could only add a disappointing final chapter to this legend's career, but maybe... I'm wrong...
