Becks set to light Olympic cauldron
Bookies William Hill have been forced to cut the price of David Beckham lighting the Olympic cauldron from 14/1 to 5/1 after he was heavily backed this morning. Despite this gamble he is still well behind both Sir Steve Redgrave (2/5) and Daley Thompson who is 7/2.
William Hill do not just take bets on sports during the Olympics but also have a lighter look at potential goings on at the Games. The weather and Britain go hand in hand and as all eyes of the world turn to London on Friday, Hills are offering 8/11 that rain falls on the Olympic Stadium during the Opening Ceremony on Friday and 12/1 that temperatures top 100f anywhere in the UK between the Opening and Closing Ceremony.
"The decision to leave Becks out of the team GB football side has left the organisers with the dilemma of how to reward his decisive contribution in winning London the Games. The money now suggests that he may be given the big one," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
