Kruse's medal hopes to be foiled?
One of England's main fencing prospects, Richard Kruse, qualified for the Olympics foil class and will be hoping to win a medal in his home country. Having competed in two Games previously without winning a medal, he is 9/2 to arrest that streak. Kruse, currently ranked number 23 in the world, is 14/1 to win a gold medal.
"Richard has won his Olympic place by right by winning at the satellite competition in Copenhagen and now he can turn all of his attentions to competing at the Games without the distraction of still having to qualify," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly.
Despite his assertions that he has not been approached to light the Olympic Flame, Sir Steve Redgrave is William Hill's Even money favourite to light the Olympic Flame with Roger Bannister 3/1 and Kelly Holmes 5/1.
