Olympic Payout Is Oarsome Return For Rowing Punter

A William Hill punter based in Henley, the home of British rowing, has struck gold in this Olympic year by turning £75 into £26,184.37. Unknown to William Hill until the day before the Olympics began, Timothy Terry, 37, a former rower for top London club Leander, opened an account in order to place £75 worth of Olympic bets on the Olympic rowing. His wager was aided by his patriotic punt on Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins to grab gold at 2/5. That bet was included in a £25 sixfold (a six selection accumulator) and a £50 sevenfold, the latter of which included six rowing selections and Usain Bolt at 1/2 to win the 100m. The two bets returned with odds of 261/1 and 392/1 respectively making him the most successful Olympic punter thus far.

Perhaps the most incredible aspect of his two bets is that he selected South Africa to win the men's lightweight fours event at 20/1, which they did, narrowly beating GB into silver.

"The bet on South Africa at 20/1 was the big punt as that was the one that would really result in the big payout, but it was not until the papers started playing down Usain Bolt's chances of winning that I really started to worry," said Timothy Terry. "As it was, there was nothing to worry about."

"For the first time in betting history, we have offered odds on every single event of the Olympics and it has opened the door for clued up punters like Mr. Terry to get one over on us with extensive knowledge of their specialist sport," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly.
