Bet In-Play on the leaders' debates

There is so much betting interest in the outcome of the first of the party leaders' debates on Thursday that here at William Hill we will be betting In-Play throughout the programme, our odds will be updated depending on the leaders' gaffes and successes.

'There is already a substantial five figure sum riding on the outcome of the opening debate, and we anticipate a huge betting interest during the course of the event which should see a six figure amount at stake, depending on who emerges as the winner' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. 'So far, the majority of the bets we have taken have been for David Cameron to win the first of the three leader showdowns.'

Meanwhile, political punters are betting that Nick Clegg will be replaced by his higher profile colleague Vince Cable after the election. 'We have seen a run of money for Vince Cable to be the next Lib Dem Leader - probably because of his higher and more sympathetic public profile' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Cable's odds have been cut from 8/1 to 6/1 to take over from Clegg, while one possibly over optimistic Lib Dem supporter has taken a £100 punt on Cable ever becoming Prime Minister at odds of 250/1 - worth £25,000 winning if the gamble comes off.
