Cameron backed to be Prime Minister
As the behind the scenes horse trading and wheeling and dealing is going on, bookmakers William Hill say political punters are convinced that the end result will be that David Cameron will become Prime Minister and have backed him down from 1/5 to 1/8 to be ensconced in that role on June 1.
'Whichever way you add up the figures, Cameron seems to have the best chance of putting together an alliance to carry him past the vital 325 mark' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
Hills make Gordon Brown 9/2 still to be PM on June 1.
With both major parties considering a deal with the Lib Dems, Hills offer 1/2 that Nick Clegg will be in the Cabinet of the first government formed (6/4 not) and 1/2 that Vince Cable will be in the first government's Cabinet.
With uncertainty still clouding Gordon Brown's future, William Hill have taken a bet of £2500 that David Miliband will be the next Labour leader and have cut his odds from 7/4 to even money favourite. Hills also offer: 7/1 Alan Johnson; 8/1 Ed Miliband; 8/1 Ed Balls; 8/1 Alistair Darling; 12/1 Harriet Harman.
'With up to £25m gambled on the General Election we'll be delighted if there is another one along very shortly' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
