German Bundesliga - Matchday 14

SV Darmstadt 98 - 1. FC Köln

Darmstadt have failed to win any of their six competitive matches against Köln (4 in the BL, 2 in the DFB Cup). Their last meeting was a 1988 cup tie, with Köln running out 6-1 winners.
Darmstadt have won just one of their last seven league games (2-0 vs. Augsburg on 20th October), and have picked up just one point in their last four games (1-1 vs. HSV).
Köln are unbeaten in their last three BL matches (W1, D2) and have conceded just one goal during this period (in the 2-1 win over Leverkusen).
Darmstadt have won just one of their seven home games this season (2-1 vs. Bremen on 22nd September) and have been in the lead on home soil for just 31 minutes all campaign (D3, L3).
Köln have drawn four of their home games this season (a league high), but are yet to draw on the road (W3, L3). The team that scored the opener has gone on to win each of Köln's away games this season.
Köln have scored the most headed goals of any side in the league (6), followed by Darmstadt (5, the same as Bayern and Dortmund). Anthony Modeste is the only player to have scored three goals with his head this season.
Aytac Sulu is the league's top scoring central defender this season (3). He is closely followed by Dominic Maroh (2, the same as Schalke's Joel Matip).
Darmstadt get worse as games go on: The Lilies have scored nine and conceded five goals before half time this season, but have scored just five and conceded 14 after the break.
Darmstadt head coach Dirk Schuster played for 1. FC Köln between 1997 and 1999. He was part of the side relegated from the Bundesliga 1997/98 (33 appearances, 3 goals) and he made 29 appearances in the second division the following season (2 goals).
Mergim Mavraj could make his 100th BL appearance (15 for the Billy Goats, as well as 32 for Fürth and 52 for Bochum). Mavraj is a product of Darmstadt's academy and played 38 times for the Lilies in the Regionalliga (2004-2007).

FC Bayern München - Hertha BSC

Bayern have won their last eight meetings against Hertha BSC. They were made to work hard for these victories last term (1-0 on both occasions).
Hertha's last triumph on the road against Bayern was on 29.10.1977 (2-0). Since then the Bavarians have had the upper hand (W16, D4).
Bayern could guarantee top spot at Christmas this weekend. They need to beat Hertha and hope BVB fail to win against VfB. If they manage this, they will have equalled the quickest time taken to wrap up the achievement (14 games, 2012/13).
Bayern are currently eight points ahead of BVB. The gap between the top two has only been larger at this stage of the season on one occasion - FCB held a nine-point advantage after 13 games in 2012/13.
Bayern's 4-0 victory over Stuttgart on MD12 was the fourth home BL game in a row that they have scored four or more goals and equals the club's record.
Pal Dardai's side have won two consecutive BL games for the first time this season and have tightened their grip on fourth place. 23 points after 13 games is Hertha's best BL campaign in seven years (2008/09, 24 points after 13 matches).
Bayern are still the only club in BL history yet to concede in the second half after 13 games. Across multiple seasons, they are on a run of 14 matches without letting in a second-half goal. The record currently stands at 15 games (FCB 2014/15).
Thomas Müller scored his 12th goal of the campaign and is now one away from equalling his record haul for a season (13 goals, most recently in 2014/15).
Robert Lewandowski has scored the most goals at home this BL campaign (11). The Pole averages a goal every 53 minutes at the Allianz Arena!
Salomon Kalou scored his first BL hat trick in his last away outing (3-1 in Hannover). Alongside Aubameyang, he is the most prolific striker on the road in the league (6 each) and the Ivorian averages a goal every 73 minutes away from home!
Mitchell Weiser moved from FCB to BSC in the summer of 2015 and is currently Berlin's top assist provider in competitive fixtures for 2015/16 with four. The 21-year-old winger made 21 competitive appearances for Bayern (1 goal, 4 assists).

SV Werder Bremen - Hamburger SV

The Northern derby between Bremen and HSV will take place for the 103rd time in the Bundesliga this weekend - no other match-up has been played so regularly.
Werder have won seven of their last eight top-flight home games against Hamburger SV (D1), including each of the last five. They only have a better run of home form against one other side - they have won their last seven home matches vs. Hertha.
Skripnik's men have lost seven of their last nine league matches (W2) and have picked up fewer points than any other side in that timeframe (6). Only at this stage in 1968/69 (8) and 1974/75 (9) had SVW lost at least as many games as they have in 2015/16 after 13 matches (8).
Bremen are on a run of four consecutive home league defeats for the first time in their Bundesliga history. They have lost five of their first Bundesliga six in front of their own fans this term, which is a new negative club record.
Hamburg have lost just one of their last five league games (2-1 vs. Hannover on matchday 11). They currently have 18 points - one more than in the entire first half of 2014/15 (17).
HSV have won three of their last five away games (D1, L1) - as many as in the whole last of season.
Bremen are on a run of 16 league games without a clean sheet - the longest current run of its kind. The last time they waited longer was in 2010/11 (17, between December and April).
13 of the 17 goals conceded by HSV have come after the break - proportionally speaking a league high (76%). Bremen have conceded the highest number of second half goals in real terms (15, together with Stuttgart).
Thanks to Mats Hummels' own goal in the 3-1 win over BVB, Hamburg managed to net three times despite only recording two shots on target.
Bruno Labbadia played for Bremen between 1996 and 1998 (63 BL games, 18 goals), including a stint alongside current Werder boss Viktor Skripnik.
Claudio Pizarro has netted 19 times vs. HSV in 24 Bundesliga meetings - more than against any other club. Only Gerd Müller (27) has scored more top-flight goals against the Hamburg side.

Hannover 96 - FC Ingolstadt 04

Matchday 14 sees the first meeting between the two clubs. Hannover and Ingolstadt have never previously gone head to head in professional football.
Hannover (13) and Ingolstadt (14) are the two teams to have created the fewest clear-cut chances. However, 96 have the best conversion rate (69.2%). Ingolstadt meanwhile have put away just 28.6% of their chances - only Bayer 04's is worse (24.0%).
The Reds (3) and FCI (2) have netted just five goals before the break between them. This is as many as Köln, who have the third lowest first half goals tally this term.
The Lower Saxony side have lost five of their six home games so far this season. Their only victory came on matchday 8, when they ran out 1-0 winners against Bremen. Along with Hoffenheim and Bremen, 96's tally of just three points taken at home is a league low.
There have been just 20 goals in the 13 BL games involving FC Ingolstadt so far this campaign. In only one previous season has a Bundesliga team's games involved fewer goals by this stage: there were only 19 goals in VfL Wolfsburg's opening 13 matches in 2006/07.
Having netted just 10 times this season, FCI have the weakest attack in the league. However, they netted more than two goals in a single game for the first time in the club's short Bundesliga history when they beat Darmstadt 3-1 on the last matchday.
This also helped FCI to secure their first top-flight victory after coming from behind.
Ingolstadt have conceded just 10 goals this season and consequently have the best defensive record of any new Bundesliga side in the history of the division. FC Bayern's 1965/66 side held the previous record, having conceded 11 goals at this stage of the season.
Moritz Hartmann grabbed his first BL brace in the 3-1 victory over Darmstadt. It was also the first once scored by an FCI player in the top flight.
Hartmann has therefore already netted four competitive goals this season - no other FCI player has scored more than one.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - Borussia Mönchengladach

Borussia Mönchengladbach are unbeaten in three vs. TSG. They were clear winners in both of last season's encounters (3-1 home, 4-1 away). The away victory in the second half of the campaign was also the Foals' first in Hoffenheim (previously D2, L4).
Hoffenheim are bottom of the Bundesliga table for only the second time in the club's history. The first occasion was in September 2012, but TSG won 3-1 against Hannover on MD4 to move out of the automatic-relegation places.
Stevens' men are the only side yet to win at home this BL campaign. They have claimed just three points in front of their own fans - a league low, together with Bremen and Hannover.
Gladbach have won their last three away BL fixtures, which they last achieved between December 1994 and March 1995 (4 in total on that occasion).
TSG are without a win in six BL games (D3, L3), with their only win of the campaign coming on MD7 (3-1 at Augsburg). They failed to score for the fourth consecutive match last time out at Hertha, which saw them set a new unwanted club record.
Hoffenheim's record of eight points from 13 matches is their worst ever in the Bundesliga. Gladbach on the other hand have more points now (22) than after 13 matchdays of their successful campaign last year (20).
All seven goals conceded by Borussia in the Bundesliga since Schubert took over have come from set pieces. TSG have netted fewer goals in this manner than any side (2, both penalties).
Does going a goal down mean defeat? Hoffenheim and Mönchengladbach are the only sides this term yet to win a point after falling behind.
This encounter sees the coach with the most BL experience (Huub Stevens, 371 games) meet the least experienced (Andre Schubert, 8). Stevens has failed to win in his last four matches against Borussia (D2, L2).
Stevens is the first coach since Christoph John (in 2002 with Köln) whose side have failed to score in his first three BL games in charge. Helmuth Johannsen is the unfortunate record holder here, after his Bochum side failed to score in his first five matches in 1979.
Andre Schubert has the joint-best record for a BL coach after eight games (W7, D1), together with Mike Büskens (April 2008 - April 2009) and Willi Entenmann (March - April 1986).

1. FSV Mainz 05 - Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt have never won a Bundesliga game in Mainz (D4, L3). They have claimed just one point and scored once in the last four games in the city.
Eintracht have won just one of their last nine top-flight fixtures (D4, L4) - 2-1 in Hannover on matchday ten. Only Bremen (6) have picked up fewer points than SGE (7, same as TSG) in that timeframe.
Mainz are on a run of three league games without defeat (W1, D2) for the first time this term. They have also kept consecutive Bundesliga clean sheets for the first time since February/March 2014 (3 shut outs in a row on that occasion).
The Frankfurt side have been shut out in eight of their last 11 Bundesliga away games. However, this term only Bayern (2) and Ingolstadt (3) have conceded fewer goals on the road than SGE (8, same as Darmstadt).
Mainz have won just 46.5% of their challenges this term - proportionally speaking a league low. They have recorded fewer successful challenges than their opponents in each of their 13 league games in 2015/16.
Entracht have conceded eight goals in the final 15 minutes of matches this term - a league high, together with VfB. 40% of all goals they have conceded have come in that timeframe - proportionally speaking more than any other side.
Schmidt's men have covered a total of 1536km (118.2 km/game) - more than any other side this season. Only Stuttgart (671) have recorded more intense runs than the 05ers (668).
Yunus Malli (7) and Yoshinori Muto (6) have scored 13 of Mainz's 18 league goals between them. The Japan international has been directly involved in six of their last eight (4 goals, 2 assists).
SGE have received at least one yellow card in their last 51 Bundesliga matches. They have notched up 35 bookings - a league high, together with Stuttgart. Marc Stendera, Marco Russ and Carlos Zambrano are all on the cusp of a suspension (4 BL yellows each this term).
Armin Veh has won just one of his seven games in Mainz as a manager in the top two divisions (D3, L2). His HSV side beat the 05ers 1-0 in October 2010.

Borussia Dortmund - VfB Stuttgart

VfB are without a win in their last 10 Bundesliga outings against Dortmund (D5, L5). Their last league victory over BVB was a 4-1 home success in January 2010.
Including last season, Borussia Dortmund are undefeated in their last 16 home matches in all competitions (W15, D1 - 2-2 vs. Darmstadt). The last side to claim all three points in Dortmund was Bayern on 4th April (1-0).
Having taken just four points on their travels this term, Stuttgart sit bottom of the away table, only taking points in Hannover (3-1) and away to TSG Hoffenheim (2-2). All other BL sides have picked up points in three away games or more this season.
13 games, 10 points - never before have VfB had as few points on the board after the opening 13 Bundesliga matchdays. Their nine defeats this term is also their highest tally at this stage of a season and a 2015/16 league high.
BVB's 36 goals scored from 13 league games this season is their second-best goals haul at this stage of the season. They only bagged more across the opening 13 matchdays in their first ever top-flight campaign in 1963/64 (41).
Stuttgart have shipped 31 goals from their 13 BL games and have therefore set an unwanted club record. No other side in the top five European leagues has conceded as many goals as VfB.
Games involving Dortmund and Stuttgart have witnessed the most goals this season. BVB games have seen 54 goals (36-18 in favour of Dortmund), while 48 goals have been netted in matches involving VfB (17-31).
Stuttgart's Przemyslaw Tyton (63.5%) and Dortmund's Roman Bürki (60.9%) have the worst save-percentage among goalkeepers in the top flight this season.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leads the BL scoring charts this season having netted 15 goals. Köln's Dieter Müller in 1977/78 was the last player to score 15 goals from the opening 13 matchdays.
Thomas Tuchel spent five years with VfB Stuttgart. Tuchel coached the U15 side (2000-04) before winning the league with their U19 outfit in 2004/05.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen - FC Schalke 04

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have only secured more Bundesliga victories against VfB Stuttgart (32) than they have against the Royal Blues (28). B04 claimed all three points in both meetings with Schalke last term. Leverkusen and Köln were the only teams S04 lost both fixtures against in 2014/15.
Leverkusen are playing out their worst season since 2006/07 when they had 15 points after 13 games (final position: 5th).
Schalke 04 are winless in their last four Bundesliga outings (D1, L3) and have now lost back-to-back games for the first time since April 2014. Jens Keller was in charge of the Royal Blues back then.
Schalke have lost all four of their BL games against sides competing in Europe this season, conceding three goals on each occasion. They were also dumped out of the DFB Cup by Gladbach (2-0).
Leverkusen have only won one of their last six BL games on a Sunday (D2, L3): 3-0 in Paderborn in March 2015. Current Schalke boss Andre Breitenreiter was SCP manager for that game.
Bayer 04 have let in 27 goals from dead balls under Roger Schmidt - only VfB Stuttgart have conceded more often from set pieces in that timeframe (32). Slobodan Medojevic headed home against B04 from a free kick in Frankfurt.
Javier Hernandez has found the back of the net in each of his last four BL matches. The last Leverkusen player to do so was Stefan Kießling in March 2014. The club record stands at seven successive top-flight matches - this marker was set by Kießling.
Stefan Kießling's next BL appearance will be his 300th in Leverkusen in colours. The forward was subbed on for the fifth time in the league this term last time out in Frankfurt - as many as in his last three BL campaigns combined.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is just one goal shy of drawing level with Ebbe Sand as the Royal Blues' all-time foreign goalscorer in the Bundesliga. Only Klaus Fischer (182) has netted more often for Schalke in the top tier.
A clean sheet against Schalke would see Bernd Leno become the second-youngest goalkeeper to rack up 50 BL clean sheets at the age of 23 years and 270 days. Only Bodo Illgner, who reached this milestone at 23 years and 196 days, was younger.

FC Augsburg - VfL Wolfsburg

After five games in a row without a win against Wolfsburg (D3, L2), Augsburg recorded their first victory over the Wolves last time out (1-0 home win).
Goal drought: The eight clashes between the sides have seen just 14 goals - against no other Bundesliga side (min. 2 appearances) have the Wolves averaged fewer goals per game than against FCA (0.75).
VfL have never scored as few goals in their first six away matches than this season (3).
Both Augsburg (4-0 vs. Stuttgart) and Wolfsburg (6-0 vs. Bremen - they've never won by a larger margin) recorded their biggest-ever Bundesliga wins last weekend.
FCA's 4-0 win in Stuttgart was the biggest win recorded by a side at the bottom of the table for five years - a team occupying last place has never won an away game by a bigger margin!
After seven games without a win, in which FCA picked up just two points, Augsburg recorded their first victory since 20th September last weekend. Wolfsburg have won four of their last five BL games (L1).
A poor home record vs. a poor away record: Augsburg have won just one of their seven home games this season (D1, L5), while Wolfsburg have won just one of their six matches on the road in 2015/16 (D2, L3).
Augsburg and Wolfsburg are the only two teams in the BL yet to score a goal on the counter this season. Last season, Wolfsburg scored more goals than any other side in this fashion (10, the same as Hoffenheim).
Five former Wolfsburg players now play for Augsburg - Caiuby, Hitz and Esswein even won the German title with the Wolves in 2008/09 (also Baier and Koo).
Max Kruse marked his comeback from injury with a brace against Werder. His five BL goals this season have all come in just two of his 11 appearances (3 vs. TSG, 2 vs. SVW).
