The Cup sets a rugby betting Challenge

As we reach the quarter finals of rugby's longest running knock-out tournament we bring you previews of every game and offer you the chance to win a £5 free bet.

As usual, Barrie McDermott and Terry O'Connor preview the betting for this weekend's action in our weekly podcast alongside William Hill trader Tim Pakyurek with Lee Phelps hosting.

Listen to what the chaps had to say as they bring you their expert insight into these crunch games

Friday 20:00 - Wigan v Salford (+10) | Bet now

After more than eight years unbeaten in the Challenge Cup, Wigan's dominance was halted by Salford in 1996. In 2006 they knocked Wigan out of "their" cup again and there's every chance of it happening this year.

Wigan haven't won for two games and the way they crumbled against a solid and disciplined Warrington side last week would have been reminiscent of Manchester Utd in Rome had it not happened five days earlier.

Salford, on the other hand, are six from nine going into this and Barrie fancies them to knock the Cup legends out. Terry and Tim think it will be a close victory for Wigan, gratefully taking Salford (+10) at 10/11.

Saturday 17:30 - Hull KR v Warrington (+6) | Bet now

Two of the form teams of the Super League come head to head, live on the BBC on Saturday evening. Rovers are flying high in second place while Warrington have only lost one game in six. The Hull team knocked Warrington out of the cup at this stage in 2006 when still in the National League but this is a vastly different side - determined, strong organised and on a roll.

But so are Warrington in the last few weeks. Very disciplined in defence against Wigan last week, Rovers will find it hard to score and we won't see a repeat of the 70-point game played out at Murrayfield a few weeks ago.

Tim and Barrie both see Hull KR winning this game but agree that the six-point handicap is about right. Terry feels that Warrington have enough to cause the upset and will certainly fancy them with the six point headstart which is available at 4/5.

Saturday 18:00 - Gateshead v St Helens (-48) | Bet now

Disrespectfully referred to as a bye for Saints by certain rugby league journalists who should no better this is the most predicatable game of the round yet sets a very interesting betting proposition.

While there's no doubt that St Helens will win, and probably score plenty, the lads at Gateshead will not go down without a fight and will come out strongly. They are capable of scoring a few tries before the Super League side's superiority begins to show.

St Helens to win by more than 48 points? Not for Tim he feels they won't have enough time. Barrie and Terry are backing Saints by a landslide.

Sunday 15:30 - Huddersfield v Castleford (+8) | Bet now

Huddersfield piled the points on a Wakefield side depleted by self-imposed bans and with Brett Hodgson back they can only be expected to continue their return to form after a few stuttering weeks.

Castleford will put up some tough opposition but will have to work hard to stop the Giants scoring and with a lack of creativity going forward are unlikely to be able to strike back. But this is the cup and anything can happen.

All three of our pundits go with Huddersfield, handicapped by eight points, to be in the pot for the draw for the next round.
