Great start for punters as bookies take six figure hammering

William hill took a six figure tumble on the first match of the World Cup after punters came steaming in for Tonga in the Handicap betting.

"Hopefully it is onwards and upwards from now on but our punters pockets are bulging after round one," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

After Tonga's spirited performance Hills have seen a surge of money for Argentina to lose by less than 14 points at 1/1.

England start as the 1/6 favourites, they are 4/6 to score three or more tries in the match and Wilkinson is 33/1 to produce a Slam.

"We are on the back foot and are hoping for a polished performance from England to sort out our book," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
