Monday morning Maplin matches
As the first round of the Maplin UK Championship continues we take a look at some of the snooker on offer this lunchtime.
The weekend saw Stephen Lee dismiss five-time champion Stephen Hendry, Ronnie was worried over qualifying amateur Rory McLeod’s come-back in their first round match, and Mark Williams made a meal of his victory over world number-four Mark Selby.
From 13:30 Monday, the action continues in this year’s UK Championship, as the match between Peter Ebdon and Andrew Higginson resumes. Higginson, 5/4 before the match began, is now 2/5 to take the victory and is leading 5 – 3. But it’s a brave punter who opposes the Ebdonator, especially at just two frames down in this race-to-nine. 7/4 about the world number 9 is a tempter.
It’s 4-4 overnight between former World Champion John Higgins and Joe Swail. Higgins, the Wizard of Wishaw, is 4/11 to progress. The world number-five ranked player should make dismissing “the Outlaw” Joe Swail (2/1) a formality when the play continues at 13:30.
Former Grand Prix victor Neil Robertson also finds himself all square after Sunday’s play. He shared four of the eight frames with Michael Holt and remains the 8/15 favourite to win the match. The Melbourne machine Robertson has a ranking of world number 10, so the quality is there but Robertson just needs to bring it to the baize – 11/8 says Holt stops the Australian.
