The Captain can fly past Fu into the final

Ali Carter takes on Marco Fu in the semi-final of the Maplin UK Championship on Friday afternoon, with dreams of winning a first ranking tournament firmly alive.

Hong Kong's Fu is the outsider of the pair at 5/4 in the betting, and is more than capable of causing an upset - but having already beaten two former world champions, Carter should not fear his opponent.

The Captain has played some superb snooker in his run to the semi-final; after Ian McCulloch retired in the first round with a neck injury, he's knocked out both Peter Ebdon and Mark Williams, and is rightly made favourite at 4/7.

Fu, on the other hand, has had a slightly easier path to the last four, having defeated Barry Hawkins, Matthew Stevens and Joe Perry in the process.

In fairness, Carter was pushed all the way in his quarter-final match against Williams, winning a final-frame decider with a cool break of 91 after the Welshman had failed to clear up when given the opportunity - but the Colchester-born trainee pilot should take this second chance and prosper.

We've got plenty of betting available for this match, and it doesn't stop when the action starts, as we'll be covering the clash with our betlive service - including frame-by-frame markets. It all starts at 13:30.
