2013: A Breakthrough Year For British Women’s Tennis?
After Laura Robson won her first tournament just a few weeks ago, Heather Watson did the same overnight in the Japan Women's Open and William Hill predict big things for the two girls in 2013.
Watson is 11/8 to end 2013 higher than Robson (who is 8/15 to do vice versa) and it is also 6/4 that either one of the youngsters manages to make an appearance in the top ten at any point during next season.
Watson is 10/1 to reach a semi final of a Grand Slam next year and 20/1 to reach a final, although the British public will want to know whether there is a chance of a British female winning at Wimbledon next year. Hills make Robson 50/1 (the same price as Caroline Wozniacki) to scoop the big prize next year with Watson 150/1.
"With Andy Murray having carried the hopes of British tennis for so long on his own, it is refreshing to see two exciting prospects in the women's game who look as though they have the potential to reign in the future," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
