Another Season – Another Champion?
Monday sees the start of a new season of Grand Slam Tennis action here at William Hill.
2014 brought us some shocks in the Mens game with the victories of Stan Wawrinka here in Australia and Marin Cilic in the US Open at Flushing Meadows - but what will a new season bring us?
World number 1 Novak Djokovic looks the man to beat and is currently priced at 10/11 to win his 5th title here. His start to the season hasn't been great, pulling out of the final in the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, before losing in the quarter finals of the ATP tournament in Qatar to big serving Ivo Karlovic in 3 sets. He doesn't look to have the toughest of the draws, with perhaps the most interesting player he may meet being 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro (80/1) coming back from yet another wrist injury.
Last year's winner Stan Wawrinka (14/1) heads up the second quarter of the draw and looks the main danger to Djokovic in the top half, Wawrinka showed us last year he can handle the pressure and the extreme temperatures which can occur on court here.
Next in the betting comes the ever young Roger Federer (11/2) who comes here approaching some of the best form of his life (his words not mine!) and is quite obviously still very capable at the age of 33 of producing the kind of form required to win this.
Seeded number 2 here he has a tough looking draw with Andy Murray (9/1) in the same quarter, which would give us a mouth-watering quarter final clash should the seeding's work out.
Also in this half of the draw come Spaniard Rafael Nadal (8/1) himself coming back from a long injury break, and big serving players Thomas Berdych (33/1) and South African Kevin Anderson (250/1).
If the seedings work out we will end up with a quarter final line up of
Djokovic v Raonic
Wawrinka v Nishikori
Berdych v Nadal
Murray v Federer
And that would make for a very interesting second week in Melbourne
All matches will be available both Pre Match and In Play here at William Hill.
