Novak's performance is no Djoke
Novak Djokovic walked away with a cool cheque for $1.4 million after destroying Nikolay Davydenko in the final of the ATP Tennis Masters Cup.
Djokovic, the world number three, had been suffering from a lack of pre-tournament form yet he defied his critics with a Master-ful performance.
Russia's number one, and semi-final conqueror of Andy Murray, Davydenko, had no answers as he fell in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.
"I'm very, very happy," said Djokovic, "I would definitely put it on a level with the Grand Slams"
With the season at a close, Djokovic can now reflect on what has been a strange year.
Victory at the Australian Open back at the start of the season should have paved the way to more success but he had recently found titles hard to come by.
He finishes the year just ten points behind Roger Federer in the ATP rankings and will look to climb to the very top in 2009.
While Djokovic works out how to spend his prize money, his fans and backers are also due a healthy bonus.
His recent failings had seen his antepost price drift right out to 11/2 meaning a few djovial drinks may well be served up!
