Baffled by BAFTAs - Or will Brits gatecrash the party
After bagging a Golden Globe for her role in The Iron Lady, Meryl Streep is 4/11 favourite with William Hill to win the BAFTA for best leading actress. She will face stiff competition from 4/1 Viola Davis (The Help) and 9/2 Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn). George Clooney won the Globe for best actor and he is the 4/6 favourite with Hills to scoop the BAFTA for his role in The Descendents while The Artist is 2/5 to follow up its success at the Globes and win the BAFTA for best film.
The only nomination that won at the globes that is not favourite for the BAFTAs is Martin Scorcese who won best director, but finds himself behind The Artist director, Michael Hazanavicius. Scorcese is 5/4 while Hazanavicius is Even money.
"The Golden Globes are usually a good indication of where the money should go during awards season, although the 3/1 for Gary Oldman to win best actor could be worth backing should there be a bit of British bias at the BAFTAs," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
