Biggest ever Sports Personality payout if McCoy wins
If Tony McCoy becomes the first jockey ever to win the BBC TV Sports Personality of the Year award on Sunday, it will cost bookmakers William Hill a record six figure payout.
'This year's award has really struck a chord with punters and with the racing industry getting behind McCoy's cause we have seen a wholesale gamble on Tony McCoy winning - if he does we face a six figure hammering, but as Tony is such a great ambassador for racing, and therefore betting, we won't be unhappy to pay out' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. 'One online McCoy fan has gambled the biggest ever Sports Personality bet of £7000 on McCoy at odds of Even money.'
For the first time over one million pounds will be at stake on the outcome of the award - 'There is so much interest that we will even be betting during the course of the competition and over one million pounds will be gambled on it for the first time ever' added Hill's spokesman Sharpe.
Hill's second worst result would be if cricketer Graeme Swann were to win, with David Haye their third worst outcome.
Their most profitable outcome would be success for Tom Daley.
William Hill have already installed David Haye as 5/1 favourite to win the award in 2011. 'With a fight against one of the Klitschkos looking almost certain for next year, David Haye will have a massive claim on the award if he manages to win it' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
William Hill BBC Sports Personality of the year betting.....4/6 Tony McCoy; 7/2 Graeme McDowell; 10/1 Phil Taylor; 14/1 Amy Williams; 16/1 Lee Westwood; 20/1 Jessica Ennis; 20/1 Graeme Swann; 33/1 Tom Daley; 66/1 Mark Cavendish; 66/1 David Haye.
