Bookies All A Twitter At Million Follower Punter
David Wright from Cardiff has set himself the challenge of reaching 1 million followers on Twitter and has staked £25 with bookies William Hill in what is the first ever 'twager'. If he manages to reach the target by Christmas 2011, he will be the recipient of £1,000, which he has stated he will give to charity. Mr Wright who is currently unemployed has claimed that should he be successful it would give him something that would help him to stand out in the currently volatile employment market.
"I am looking to do something to help me stand out from the crowd, so when it comes down to me and someone else, I will have the upper hand," said Mr. Wright, 27.
"This is the first bet that we have ever taken from someone wishing to bet on the number of Twitter followers they will have by a certain date," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly. "We can really see this bet capturing the attentions of those on Twitter who will be desperate to see someone get one over on the bookies."
From the 16th September, Dave will be changing his name to @dave_v_wh. The bet that he has placed is £25 at 40/1 that he reaches 1,000,000 followers by 25th December 2011.
