Bookies Bracing Themselves For Boat Race Betting Bonanza
William Hill can report that all of the money has been for 2/5 Oxford in the build up to this Sunday’s University boat race.
The Dark Blues have been the subject of over 70% of all wagers placed on the race and have also seen the biggest bet, of £300, placed on them. Cambridge are 7/4 to win the race with the dead heat 100/1.
“Oxford are certainly the best backed crew as of yet, although that was very much the case at this stage of proceedings last year,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “Last year, however, we took nearly £40,000 on the day of the race and Cambridge became best backed by the time the race started. Maybe history will repeat itself this time around.”
With choppy conditions predicted for this Sunday’s boat race, William Hill have pushed out the odds of either crew setting a record breaking time from 10/1 to 14/1 and sensationally cut the price of either boat sinking from 40/1 to 33/1.
“The boat race can always be a great leveller and given that conditions may not be the best we could see a brutal battle with two crews going neck and neck down the Tideway,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
