Christmas betting: will the snow show? No.1 for Hillsborough
Christmas is just eight sleeps away and William Hill are predicting a disappointingly un-white Christmas. Backed in from 7/1 to 2/1 (for London), at the start of December, it looked like it would be snow all round on Christmas Day, however a recent upsurge in temperatures has seen the price drift back out to 4/1.
For our festive friends north of the border, however, snow remains a more realistic possibility. Offered at 7/4, Aberdeen is the favourite to see a white Christmas, with Edinburgh 2/1 and Glasgow 5/2.
"At the start of the month, the Beast from the East brought with it not just icy temperatures but the possibility of snow on Christmas Day," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. "Unfortunately that does not look too likely now."
The Justice Collective have released their charity single and having been offered in October at 4/6, it has now been backed all the way in to 1/7 for the festive top spot, with the largest bet being £12,000 at 1/6. Despite having the highest weekly sales figures of the year last week, James Arthur is 9/2 for Christmas number one.
"The Justice Collective have some of the biggest stars in music on board and look absolutely certain to scoop a Christmas number one for a fantastic cause," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
EastEnders looks primed to be the highest viewed programme on Christmas Day at 1/2 and given the exciting storyline involving Derek Branning, it is obvious to see why. With Derek set to be greased on Christmas Day, Lauren is the 2/1 favourite to do the deed, with Derek himself at 4/1, Alfie and Tanya 8/1 and brother, Max, 9/1.
Another Christmas tradition (aside from a gritty slice of Albert Square festive cheer) comes in the form of the Queen's Speech. William Hill offer 1/33 that she mentions the Olmpic and/or Paralympic Games and Even money that she mentions she is about to become a Great Grandmother. Should she go off script, she is 100/1 to mention Gangnam Style and the same price to refer to ‘Plebgate'.
