France dishes up record Eurovision Gamble
A massive overnight gamble has seen France backed in, to 5/1 from 66/1 with William Hill, to win this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
Amaury Vassili was announced as France's representative last night, and his classical song, Sognu, has really captured the imagination of Hill's Eurovision punters, attracting a five figure sum in 24 hours.
France is now the second favourite, behind 4/1 favourites, Norway.
Eurovision heavyweights, Ireland are 16/1 with Jedward, while Blue, representing the United Kingdom, are 14/1.
"The gamble on France suggests that a classical track may well be able to transcend the traditional politicking that often blights Eurovision voting," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly.
