Hill Avoid Going Into The Read As Reading Overlooked For City Status
William Hill dodged a £35K bullet as Reading was again overlooked to become a City as part of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations. Reading had been backed into 10/11 from 6/1 to be granted the honour by the Queen but instead lost out to St. Asaph (33/1), Chelmsford (18/1) and Perth (8/1). Hills will be paying out on all three cities despite originally understanding that there would only be one winner.
"Of the winning towns, Perth is the only one that we have seen any serious cash for but we are not complaining," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly. "We would have preferred to have paid out on every other town combined than have to foot the bill had Reading been successful."
