Sir Danny bets refunded as Sir Brad bashes bookies again
William Hill have taken the step of refunding all bets on Danny Boyle receiving a knighthood following the news that he was offered one but turned it down.
Danny was 4/1 to be knighted after the opening ceremony, a price that was backed in to 1/8 before the book closed in November.
"It was almost a certainty that Danny was going to get the accolade, but punters obviously did not take into account the possibility that the knighthood would be refused. As a result we are happy to return their stakes.," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
Other William Hill customers were once again hailing Bradley Wiggins after he was also awarded a knighthood. Offered at 1/2 when he scooped the Tour de France crown, he was backed in to 1/6 after the Olympics.
"Wiggo has single-handedly done his best to put us out of business," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. "He was favourite for the Tour and won, favourite for the Olympic time trial and won, favourite for SPOTY and now the Knighthood. Well played Sir Bradley."
