Streep In The Deep As Oscar Odds Drift Daily
Meryl Streep may not have as iron a grip on the Oscar for Best Actress as first thought, with bookmakers, William Hill, having seen her odds drift incredibly from 4/6 to 6/5. Viola Davis has been the one to benefit becoming the 8/13 favourite for her role in The Help. Jean Dujardin is 8/11 to win best actor while his film, The Artist (1/12), has built up an almost unassailable lead at the head of the betting to win best film.
"We came close to paying out on Meryl Streep winning the award for best actress as she was considered that much of a certainty to win," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly. "Now, with just a few days to go, she is not even the favourite."
NB: William Hill are offering markets on 16 categories this year and will also be betting live in running during the awards ceremony.
