The Scream set to become most expensive ever sold?
Edvard Munch's original "The Scream" is set to go on sale in New York on May 2nd and William Hill are offering Even money that it surpasses the record for any work of art at auction ($106.5m for Pablo Picasso's "Nude, Green Leaves and Bust").
Experts have claimed that it should fetch at least $80m and Hills go 7/2 that it fails to beat that estimate, while it is 2/5 to exceed $100m.
"We believe that perhaps only the ‘Mona Lisa' would go for more at auction and there is a real chance that ‘The Scream' will defy the recession and fetch a new record price for a work of art! Said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
