William Hill manager wins Racing Post award
William Hill shop manager Barbara Berki has scooped the highest honour in the industry, the Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager of the Year award, beating seven other finalists to the title.
Berki, 47, based in the Nursery Parade branch of William Hill on Marsh Road, Luton, has been a manager for 23 years. She made it onto the shortlist for the SIS/Racing Post Betting Shop Manager of the Year after winning her Anglia and South East regional heat and making it into the ‘super eight.'
Her reward includes a VIP trip to the Singapore International Airlines Cup in 2013 and many other prizes including a £20,000 car from William Hill. She will also become an ambassador for betting shop managers nationwide.
The shop manager originally from Middlesbrough was accompanied at the awards lunch by her full time staff members Martin Whelan and Sharon Ginnerty.
"I have worked in the industry for 29 years and will be celebrating my 20th anniversary with William Hill next month. I love my job and I have a lot to thank my shop team for," Berki said.
She started as a shop manager in Middlesbrough and after marrying moved to London where she took charge in a number of shops in the Mayfair area. Barbara oversaw the Electronic Point of Sale implementation which changed the face of William Hill shops and is also a training officer for her area, helping develop and train other William Hill employees.
After moving from the main Luton branch of the company to Nursery Parade, Barbara has overseen a dramatic increase in turnover and is extremely liked by her shop team and her customers, who will be celebrating her amazing win with her for weeks to come.
A Racing Post mystery shopper reported to the judging panel that;
"Barbara's attitude was excellent: friendly, approachable and genuine. The shop was particularly busy when I visited, but the atmosphere was enjoyable and comfortable. It was a very memorable experience."
