Paraguay play for the draw

Both teams managed to draw the first round of their group matches. However, Paraguay will be the far happier of the two teams. They will be buoyed by the 1-1 draw with the world champions Italy, where as the Slovakians let their lead slip against New Zealand.

They conceded a 93rd minute equaliser after they dominated the majority of the game. Group F is one of the tightest groups in the tournament.

Gerardo Martino the Paraguay coach believes his team can progress to the knock-out stage with two draws in their remaining group games. The draw is priced at 21/10, with a Paraguay win  21/20.

Paraguay know they can afford to draw the game and beat New Zealand in the final group match and progress to the knock-out phases.

Santa Cruz is Paraguay's best play and he only played twenty two minutes against Italy. He is 11/2 to be the first goalscorer and he should start the match. He has problems with his fitness but on his day he is one of the best strikers in the world.

Paraguay are 2/5 for the draw no bet,  the price is too short to be tempted to back but I cannot see Slovakia getting a result. They will be disillusioned by New Zealand's late equaliser and they may struggle against their South American opposition.

Paraguay managed to get a point against Italy because they were very disciplined. They may struggle against Slovakia if they play with too many men forward, as Slovakia could score on the counter attack.

Slovakia should start with the former Chelsea player Stoch, he came off the bench in the New Zealand match.

I would consider looking at the double result market, with the Draw/Paraguay available at 18/5. Both teams will be quite cautious in the first half and with Cardozo and Santa Cruz both starting, if they have the stamina, they could help finish off the Slovakians in the second half.

I have the impression with Slovakia that they are pleased to be playing in the World Cup finals, there is no pressure on them to qualify and all the players will be national heroes even if they are knocked out of the World Cup next week.

It may not appear to be one of the best matches in the tournament but after watching the dire England match yesterday and enjoying the USA v Slovenia match, it could offer more entertainment than many critics suggest.
