NFL week 7 preview: Chiefs favoured to steamroll 49ers

| BY News Team

The action returns to the NFL this weekend with some of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season so far. The San Francisco 49ers welcome the Kansas City Chiefs meanwhile the New York Jets look to extend their dominant form with a win on the road over the Denver Broncos.

We preview the best of the action below.

San Francisco 49ers v Kansas City Chiefs: Fire lit under 49ers

Following last weekend’s disappointment, the 49ers will be eager to impress in front of home crowds at the Levi’s Stadium. They welcome the Kansas City Chiefs following their 28-14 loss to the Falcons on the road last Sunday, losing both Mooney Ward and Mike McGlinchey to injury during the course of the game.

This defeat brought the 49ers to a 3-3 record this season, narrowly sticking to the top of their NFC West group. Kyle Shanahan will know better than anyone else how crucial clinching victory will be for his side this weekend, as they head into the matchup the 5/4 underdogs.

Shanahan’s squad may have been tainted by injury last weekend, but ahead of this game the 49ers are hoping to see defensive end Nick Bosa and offensive tackle Trent Williams return from injury, which should help eradicate some of the errors displayed previously. Despite the return of two top-class players, safety Talanoa Hufanga is rumoured to be held back from week seven’s fixture.

The Kansas City Chiefs similarly faced disappointment last weekend, suffering a four-point loss to the Bills during a must win game where they were the underdogs at home for the first time while Patrick Mahomes has been quarterback.

The Chiefs will kick off as the 20/29 favourites at -2.5 in the spread. Their season has started in less dire circumstances, with the team being 4-2 from their first six played, but a win here will also be crucial in keeping the Chiefs at the top of their AFC West table.

Given the 49ers ongoing injury troubles – with double digit injuries including their starting quarterback Trey Lance, who has been out of action since week two – the Chiefs may well be full of confidence heading over to the Levi’s Stadium.

This is a highly anticipated showdown between two highly skilled teams, and it’s expected to be a touchdown frenzy, with the odds of both teams scoring at least three touchdowns being just 17/10.

Denver Broncos v New York Jets: New York in slip stream for playoffs

Following yet another dominant performance against the Green Bay Packers on the road last weekend, the New York Jets look to extend their winning streak with another show stopping victory this Sunday, bringing them ever closer to the playoffs which now seem like a real possibility for the side.

The Jets are the slight underdogs at evens ahead of their visit to Empower Field at Mile High, where head coach Robert Saleh looks to take his side to a 5-2 record just seven games deep into the season.

If there has been one area the Jets have not lacked in, it is defensive prowess. Their defensive line has been surprisingly impressive so far this season and will give the Broncos all kinds of trouble given the absence of their star running back Javonte Williams.

However, defensive prowess is also the name of the game for their opposition, who boast one of the best defensive line-ups in the NFL. This may lead to a lower scoring game as both sides are somewhat lacking in offensive bite at the moment, although arguably the Broncos are suffering from this problem significantly more.

After their 19-16 loss to the Chargers last Tuesday, the Broncos are now 2-4 in the season so far and lie third in their group table. Despite their poor form, they kick off the slight favourites this weekend at 5/6 and -1 in the spread.

Should they lose this home game, their entire season is in jeopardy, and we may witness an implosion on behalf of the side. Those rooting for chaos will certainly want the Jets to produce an upset.
