What does NAP mean in horse racing?

Horse racing is full of terms that you might find hard to understand at first, but once you know you’ll take your knowledge to the next level.

Let’s take NAP. You’ll hear this used by tipsters in relation to their best bet.

For example, a tipster could preview a seven-race card and make a pick in each contest. But they’ll highlight their strongest selection by using the term NAP to indicate they believe this horse has the best chance of winning.

What is a NAP of the Day?

Quite simply, it’s the best bet of the day from a tipster.

If you read the Racing Post Spotlight verdicts available on our racecards, then you’ll see this term used once per meeting.

How to read a NAPs Table?

Here at William Hill, we have our own NAPs Table from experts, pundits and our presenters on Racing Radio.

Each NAPs Table is different, but in ours, you can find the form of the tipster’s recent picks, as well as how they’re faring in the month and over the season.

If you see a tipster with a ‘+’ in the month or season, then their NAPs are proving profitable.

You’ll also see the selection with the race time and the track it’s running at to help point you towards the right racecard if you want to follow suit.

How do you place a NAP bet?

To follow a tipster’s NAP, you can add their selection to your betslip. Once you’ve done that, you have to decide whether to back it to win-only or each-way. Everybody’s different and this can depend on the price of the NAP.
