Copa America 2024 Final predictions

Copa America 2024 comes to an end on Monday 15th July, when the final kicks off at 1am BST with Argentina facing Colombia.

Argentina are favoured at 8/13 to win back-to-back Copa Americas, and their third major international title in a row, but still have to pass a resurgent Colombia who are 6/5 to win their first Copa America in 23 years.

Without doubt, the story of the tournament has been the performance of James Rodríguez, who’s 5/6 to win the Player of the Tournament award. The Colombian attacking midfielder has notched six assists and a goal in five games, becoming the first player to make six assists in a major tournament since Pelé for Brazil at the 1970 World Cup.

His impact has been the driving force behind Colombia’s run to the final this time around and it wouldn’t be a shock if they were to go all the way. Already overturning the odds in their semi-final against Uruguay, they and Rodríguez are on a roll.

Lautaro Martínez of Argentina has all but wrapped up the Top Scorer award for the tournament, sitting on four goals. The Inter Milan man has been clinical thus far despite sharing the striking burden with Julián Álvarez, Martínez can be backed to score anytime in the final at 11/5.

Lionel Messi had long booked himself into the Argentinian Hall of Fame before his maiden World Cup victory in 2022, but even at the age of 37 he is still putting the hopes of the nation on his back in major international competition. Scoring his 109th international goal in the semi-final against Canada, he booked his place his seventh major final in his national colours, which may well be his last. If there’s one player that really comes alive when pulling on the national shirt, it’s Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. The verdict

The story of the tournament has undoubtedly been Colombia and their run to the final. They were relatively unfancied pre-tournament, starting at a price of 12/1 and have proved many of their doubters wrong, thrashing Panama and taking a big scalp in Uruguay on their way to the final. What a story it would be for their players who have never tasted glory at major international level, you can’t say it isn’t deserved if they do this time around.

However, it is very hard to see past Argentina winning it all. They have the better squad and have shown that the close victory over Ecuador on penalties in the quarter-final was a blip after dispatching Canada in the semi-final, it looks set to be a great final but Messi and co may just prove too strong.
