Next England manager betting

| BY News Team

After eight years in charge, Gareth Southgate stepped down from the role of England manager. Now, the spotlight turns to his successor, and the betting markets are buzzing with speculation on who will take on the challenge of leading England into the next era.

Our list below looks at the most likely replacements for Southgate and how the betting has progressed since his departure.

Bet on the next permanent England manager with William Hill

Eddie Howe – 6/1

Third in the market is current Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe. The Englishman’s name has long been courted as a replacement for when Southgate stepped down, and it seems a realistic progression for the manager. His tenure at Newcastle has been a success overall, qualifying for the Champions League in his first full season. Howe previously did lead the market when Southgate first left, at 5/2, but now finds himself at the larger price of 6/1.

This drift from 5/2 to 6/1 coincides with the fact that it seems Howe is settled at Newcastle and he’s publicly cooled rumours of him switching to the national team, saying he hasn’t been approached. Also Newcastle got off to winning ways in the Premier League, and it doesn’t seem as though Howe would want to be leaving this promising situation at Newcastle United just yet. As there is still much more expected from the Toon in coming seasons.

Graham Potter – 5/2

Next in is Graham Potter at 5/2. Currently out of work since his stint as Chelsea boss, Potter is clearly waiting for the right opportunity to come along before he steps back into the technical area. Whilst his tenure at Chelsea hasn’t done wonders for his reputation, Potter’s managerial ability still speaks for itself, and he was considered to be one of the Premier League’s best before he took the job at Stamford Bridge.

He’s long been rumoured to be next in line for England, and his appointment would be exciting for the players and fans alike, with the style his teams tend to take.

Potter has always remained around the 5/2 mark for the job, and there hasn’t been any reason as to why this appointment won’t be made. Potter has been open with media, explaining he is now ready to take his next challenge.

Lee Carsley – 6/5

Current Interim manager Lee Carsley is the 6/5 favourite to charter the same course as Gareth Southgate did when stepping into the role of senior England manager. Carsley’s side won the European Under-21 Championship, displaying impressive defensive solidity whilst playing expansive football offensively. His style could flourish with the highly-talented nature of the senior squad, some of which he has worked with within the youth setup. The FA have shown they like to recruit internally, and Carsley may be next in line here.

He had been as big as 12/1 at the start of July, prior to his appointment as interim manager. He will take charge of England’s next Nations League games, giving him a great opportunity to prove to the FA Committee that he can step up to the senior team and implement what he has learnt from the U21 side at the highest international level.
