Given the nature of the tournament, there are a plethora of high-profile players on show, including some of the best goalscorers that money can buy, who’ll be relied upon to progress their teams as far as they can in the competition.

Erling Haaland 3/1
It’s extremely rare you’ll find any market on scoring goals that isn’t headed by the Norwegian goal-machine Erling Haaland. Since bursting onto the scene as a youngster for Red Bull Salzburg in the 2018/19 season in the Austrian Bundesliga, he’s gone from strength to strength.
His big-money move to Manchester City ahead of the 2022/23 season has been worth every single penny, and more. As of his last domestic game week, he has hit the back of the net a staggering 99 times across all competitions in just 103 appearances. This undoubtedly backs up his favourite status in the market as he looks in better form than ever.
In the new group-stage system, City have eight games to play, and they are by far the pick of the bunch. At 3/1, Haaland still looks a little bit long for top goal scorer as he’ll most likely pick up a goal, if not two, in most of the games.
The Norwegian thrives in this competition, and across his last three clubs, he has scored 41 times in just 39 Champions League appearances. With City the favourites this year, their potential longevity in the competition will certainly be a positive for his goals tally.
Kylian Mbappe 11/2
Kylian Mbappe is also one to keep an eye on in these big competitions, especially since his move to Real Madrid in the summer. This is a team that has won the Champions League a record 15 times – with six of those coming in the last decade – and that’ll play into his favour as their new frontman.
With the strength across all areas of the pitch, Mbappe will be getting premium service from all directions and the chances will come thick and fast for him. You only need to think back to his performance in the World Cup final to know that this man is capable of carrying an entire team on his back.
His price of 11/2 most likely reflects his slow start to the season for Los Blancos – relative to his prior form in Ligue 1 of course – where he’s scored four goals in six games.
For both Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, however, the Frenchman raked in 48 goals in 73 appearances in the Champions league and he’ll undoubtedly be in pursuit of reaching that century mark sooner rather than later. We expect him to make quite the dent into that deficit throughout this campaign.
Harry Kane 6/1
Harry Kane, despite being seven years older than Haaland, has only played five more games in this competition with an impressive record of 29 goals. Since joining the German giants Bayern Munich, however, England’s number nine is sure to get plenty more game time on the European stage.
There’s plenty of life in the old dog yet, and we expect this clinical striker to be banging in the goals for many years to come. Almost neck-and-neck with Mbappe in the market, Kane has odds of 6/1 to walk away as the top goal scorer.
Given his immaculate record since his move away from Spurs, 49 goals in 49 games – with five goals from his first five games this campaign – we think he could be a dark horse in the market. That said, the only questions will be around how long they last in the competition, but with a consistently strong squad, there’s faith for Vincent Kompany’s men.
