Liverpool
Liverpool have been nothing short of sensational this season. Sitting top of the table, four points clear of Chelsea with a game in hand, the Reds are the odds-on favourites at 4/9 to win the Premier League. Many fans and pundits are already declaring the title race a foregone conclusion, calling it “Liverpool’s to lose.”
At the heart of their dominance is Mohamed Salah, a player in imperious form. With 15 goals and 11 assists in 16 appearances, Salah is not just Liverpool’s talisman but the league’s standout performer. He is the favourite to win PFA Player of the Year (4/6) and is tipped to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer (8/11). Keeping him firing and content will be key to maintaining Liverpool’s momentum into 2025.
Chelsea
Few expected Chelsea to be legitimate title contenders this season, despite their heavy summer spending. However, under Enzo Maresca’s shrewd management, the Blues have flourished. Maresca has brought balance and flair to the team, steering them into second place with an attractive, high-intensity playing style. They are given odds of 13/2 to win the Premier League at this stage.
One player epitomizing this resurgence is Cole Palmer. The young star has been a revelation, racking up 11 goals and 6 assists in 17 matches. His performances have made Stamford Bridge a fortress once again and positioned him as a top contender for PFA Player of the Year (7/2), second only to Salah.
Man City and Arsenal
It’s rare to see Manchester City and Arsenal struggling to meet expectations, but this season has thrown up unexpected challenges for both clubs.
Manchester City have had an uncharacteristically poor campaign, languishing in seventh place with a meagre +4 goal difference. The absence of Rodri for key fixtures has exposed vulnerabilities in their squad, and their form has made a league title virtually impossible (33/1 odds). Pep Guardiola’s side will likely turn their attention to domestic cups or the Champions League to salvage their season.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have been more consistent, sitting six points behind Liverpool after playing an extra game. Wins against Crystal Palace in both league and cup competitions have rejuvenated the Gunners’ fan base. At 7/2, Arsenal are the second favourites to mount a title challenge and remain Liverpool’s most credible threat going into 2025.
Relegation Battle
The bottom of the table is shaping up to be a thrilling battle for survival, with Leicester, Wolves, Ipswich, and Southampton occupying the danger zone.
- Southampton are firm favourites to go down (1/12 odds), and their struggles seem almost insurmountable.
- Ipswich (4/11) and Leicester (2/5) are also heavily backed for relegation, despite flashes of quality.
- Wolves (6/4) are the least likely of the four to drop, bolstered by a crucial 3-0 win over Leicester that lifted spirits at Molineux.
The January transfer window could prove decisive. With Ruud van Nistelrooy newly appointed at Leicester, there’s intrigue around whether he can turn things around with fresh additions and tactical changes.
The 2024 Premier League season has been one of contrasts. Liverpool’s dominance and Chelsea’s unexpected rise have provided plenty of excitement, while Man City and Arsenal have fallen short of their usual standards. At the other end, the relegation battle promises drama right until the last matchday.
As we head into the new year, the stage is set for an exciting second half of the season. Will Liverpool cruise to the title? Can Arsenal or Chelsea close the gap? And who will survive the dogfight at the bottom? The answers await in 2025.
